DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fantastic presentation from Erik Simula is a Finnish-American cultural educator and birch bark canoe builder from Duluth\, Minnesota. \nDate: Tuesday\, November 14\nTime: 2:00pm – 3:00pm\nLocation: FDLTCC Commons \nOpen to the public. Refreshments will be served. \n\nDiscover the significance of the birch bark canoe in Anishinaabe culture and language.\nLearn about the birch bark canoe’s history\, design\, materials\, construction\, and use in wild rice harvesting.\nA highlight will be an examination of the traditional birch bark canoe on display at FDLTCC.\n\nErik Simula is a Finnish-American cultural educator and birch bark canoe builder from Duluth\, Minnesota. He is a graduate student in the Master of Tribal Resource and Environmental Stewardship (MTRES) Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth and a research assistant with the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership to support the 2024 revision of the 1854 Ceded Territory Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
