SUMMARY:Ma’iingan (wolf) Population Monitoring on the Fond du Lac Reservation
DESCRIPTION:Ma’iingan\, the wolf\, is a central figure in the Ojibwe creation story and as such\, many tribal members feel a close spiritual connection to the wolf.  Wolves also can be charismatic\, divisive and a significant northwoods predator.  The Fond du Lac Band’s Resource Management Division has been studying wolves for the past several years working to estimate the number of wolves annually using the Reservation.  This research includes trying to determine the location and size of local pack territories\, locating their dens and monitoring reproduction and tracking causes and rates of mortality.  In addition\, the Division works to determine the impact of significant activities\, such as the Line 3 pipeline construction\, on the resident wolf population.  Mike Schrage\, the wildlife biologist for the Band’s Resource Management Division will share the results of this work in his presentation. \nDate: Wednesday February 23rd at 3 p.m. \nLocation: 195 (auditorium) or Zoom \nZoom: https://minnstate.zoom.us/j/96904935843 \nJoin the Presentation via Zoom \n
