Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Football safety Josh Butler was named Defensive Athlete of the Week in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Eastern Division for games played on Saturday, September 26, 2019. This is the second time this season that Butler was named Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Butler led the Thunder defense with eleven total tackles in the Thunder’s 41-15 loss to Central Lakes College in Brainerd last Saturday. The game was Butler’s first time starting at safety after primarily starting and playing cornerback in the Thunder’s previous games.
“When he’s playing at safety, Josh sees a lot of things and plays and reacts quickly to what is coming at him,” said Thunder Football Head Coach Robert Smith. “He anticipates well and doesn’t mind coming downhill to make big hits.”
In the Thunder’s first six games of the 2019 season, Butler has 37 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and one interception return for a touchdown. Butler is in his first year with the Thunder and is a graduate of Roseville High School in Roseville, MI.
The Thunder Football team is currently 3-3 on the season. The Thunder travel to Rochester, MN, this weekend for another MCAC Eastern Division game vs. Rochester Technical & Community College in a game set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5.
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The football conference includes 11 teams which are divided geographically into Eastern and Western Divisions.
Adidas, the United States Marine Corps, and Nicklasson Athletic Company sponsor the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Athlete-of-the-Week awards, and proudly honor student-athletes for their individual performances each week on behalf of their teams. More information about the conference is available from the league’s website here.

Testimonials

I chose FDLTCC because of its size and the curriculum. When I first came here in 2019, I was just looking for what I needed to volunteer, perhaps in a crisis shelter. I met with Don Jarvinen, and the rest is history.

My favorite thing about FDLTCC is the people. I’ve met fantastic students, faculty and staff who go above and beyond what I expected.

It is awesome here at the FDLTCC Education Program because it is like a family here, if you need help or are struggling with anything, you have quite a few people who will help you out.
