In a repeat of the successful Thanksgiving Food Bundle distribution last November, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College employees handed out Spring Semester Food Bundles to current college students on Friday, March 26.
Student government leaders at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College determined that the spring semester food bundles would help address food needs of students and their families during the spring break week of area public school districts, a time when some families may not have access to sufficient food resources via the traditional school lunch programs.
The food bundles were filled and assembled into convenient packages for contactless pick-up. The bundles contained a variety of non-perishable “lunch bag” items that students chose through a registration survey. Each bundle was made to meet the specific needs of each student, including the number of people in the student’s household. Items included, but were not limited to, were “Uncrustable sandwiches,” trail mix, fruit cups, fruit snacks, juice boxes, water bottles, and more. Current college students were invited to participate and pre-register to receive a customized food bundle. The college distributed 40 bundles that will impact about 150 people.
This year Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College is focusing on one of the college’s core values, compassion. Employees at the college hope to share the selected core value with students, their families, and the communities served by the college. College employees volunteered with assembly and distribution of the food bundles. Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College has a longstanding reputation for supporting students.
Funding was provided by the American Indian College Fund to support students with food insecurity. Bundle items were purchased locally at Super One Foods and Walmart.
