Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College is hosting a fantastic event featuring two FDLTCC alumni on Wednesday, February 23. The exciting event will be featuring a presentation from Serrano Robinson and soul food lunch provided by Doc Witherspoon’s Soul Food Shack.

During his presentation, Serrano will acknowledge United States’ history involving the Black community while raising awareness of current racial inequities and social injustices that Black people face. Through open discussion with the audience, he hopes to create an understanding of the issues that the Black community faces to create a better future.

“We look forward to having two FDLTCC alums back on campus to help recognize Black History month and to teach us all,” said Stephanie Hammitt, president of FDLTCC. “This college was founded on the basis of celebrating diversity and learning more about others’ experiences.  It is important that we continue to have presentations such as this for our community so we can better understand the challenges each of us may have experienced as well as the strengths each of us brings to the table to enrich each other’s lives.”

Serrano draws on his own childhood experiences growing up in a low-income area to develop common ground. He works at Men as Peacemakers giving youth a safe space to be themselves within the systems that we live. Serrano is passionate about social change and stands firmly on youth development and equity.
