Objectives of Student Advisement at FDLTCC

Advisor assistance is designed to:
Help students formulate academic goals and understand degree requirements.
Work with students on developing academic plans for degree.
Assist students in selecting appropriate classes and reviewing degree audit reports (DARS)
Connect students with campus and community resources, as needed.

 

What Do Our Advisors/Program Coordinators Do in an Advising Session?

Assist students with questions about how to meet degree requirements
Assist students pursuing an associate of arts degree or other degrees, diplomas or certificates
Assist student who are undecided on a major

What Is a Degree Audit Report (DARS) and How Do I Access the Report?

The Degree Audit Report is a computerized listing of degree requirements and required courses that a student must take to earn a specific degree at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. Students can access their DARS report by doing the following: Log in to your eServices account here. When logged in, click on “Grades and Transcripts” to print your Interactive Degree Audit Report. Students can verify their major/program and determine what classes they need to meet graduation requirements.

What is a Program Planner?

Students need to take required courses for specific programs at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College and a program planner is a one-page handout which shows course and degree requirement information.

Where Can I Find My Program Planner?

Go to the Program Planner page here. You will find all of the Program Planner checklists that contain course requirements for the the degrees and certificates that are offered at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College.

When can I register online for classes? How do I register online for my classes?

Students can register online by accessing your student account on the Student eServices page located here. When logged in, click on “Courses and Registration” to start the registration process. You will need your student identification number and a password to login. See our Records Office staff if you have problems logging in.

NOTE: Before students register online for courses, it is always helpful for students to see an advisor or program director to discuss courses needed for a degree. Talking to an advisor or program director will help students prepare for current and future registration.

What Are Some Suggestion to Help Me in the Advising Process?

Become knowledgeable about college programs, policies, and procedures
Become familiar with how to read a class schedule
Learn how to schedule classes that meet degree requirements as outlined on a Program Planner
Know where to find Program Planners on the college website
Clarify personal values and goals
Actively participate in the advising and decision-making process
Prepare a list of questions or concerns before each advising visit
Follow through on suggested actions, resources, or referrals from your advisor/program director
Keep a personal record of academic progress and classes taken toward a major.
Know how to print and read a DARS report.
Accept responsibility for academic decisions and performance

What are some roles of an academic advisor?
Communicate the college’s curriculum, program requirements, policies, and procedures
Encourage and guide students to define and develop realistic educational goals
Assist students with planning courses consistent with their abilities and interests
Listen carefully to questions, concerns, and confusions
Match students’ needs with available resources and make referrals
Monitor students’ academic progress
