Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Men’s Basketball student athlete Darius Williams was named to the Minnesota College Athletic Conference All-Northern Division Team for his outstanding performance during the 2016-2017 season. The postseason award recognizes the top 14 players among the eight colleges in the Northern Division of the conference.
Williams, a 6’7” center/forward, is currently a sophomore at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet, Minnesota, and will graduate at the end of Spring Semester. He is a graduate of Ecorse High School in Ecorse, Michigan. Williams is the third Thunder Basketball student athlete in program history to earn MCAC All-Conference Team honors.
“Darius was one of the best big men in our league this season,” said Thunder Basketball Head Coach Damien Paulson. “He was an anchor for our team and controlled the lane and led us in both scoring and rebounds in many games. In addition to playing well on the court, Darius has been on the academic Dean’s List two of the three semesters he has been at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College.”
At the conclusion of the 2016-2017 season, Williams was among the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Northern Division statistical leaders in scoring with a 14.1 points per game average, and in rebounding with a 9.1 rebounds per game average. Williams shot a solid 54.7% made of his field goals attempts. During his freshman year in 2015-2016, Williams averaged 10.7 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also finished second all-time in Thunder Basketball program history with 339 career rebounds over two seasons.
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The men’s basketball conference includes 16 teams which are divided geographically into Northern and Southern Divisions.
