Five students in the Nursing Program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College have been named the 2018 recipients of the Sarah Hough Memorial Scholarships. Morgan Weber, Madison Pallin, Kaylee Ruzynski, Michelle Harrington, Tara Schaak all received the scholarship that honors a former Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Nursing student.
Morgan Weber, a current Esko resident and a graduate of Lincoln High School, will be completing the Practical Nursing Diploma program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in May 2018. After finishing the Practical Nursing Diploma program, Morgan plans to work as an LPN while continuing her education at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College to complete the Associate Degree Nursing program and become a registered nurse. She has a career goal to become a registered nurse, with a specific interest in trauma and surgical nursing.
Madison Pallin, a graduate of Cloquet Senior High School who is a current Cloquet resident, will be completing the Practical Nursing Diploma program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in May 2018. After finishing the Practical Nursing diploma program, Madison plans to work as an LPN and continue her education to become a registered nurse.
Kaylee Ruzynski, originally from Floodwood and a graduate of Floodwood High School, is currently a Cloquet resident who will be completing the Practical Nursing Diploma program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in May 2018. After finishing the Practical Nursing Diploma program, Kaylee plans to work as an LPN and work toward becoming a registered nurse. She has a career goal to become a registered nurse, with a specific interest in geriatrics.
Michelle Harrington, originally from White Bear Lake and a graduate of White Bear Lake High School, is a current resident of Esko who will be completing the Practical Nursing Diploma program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in May 2018. After finishing the Practical Nursing Diploma program, Michelle plans to continue her education at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College to complete the Associate Degree Nursing program and become a registered nurse. She has a career goal to become a registered nurse, with a specific interest in trauma and emergency room nursing.
Tara Schaak, a current Cloquet resident and a graduate of Cloquet Senior High School, is completing the Practical Nursing Diploma program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. After finishing the Practical Nursing Diploma program in May 2018, Tara plans to continue her education at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College to complete the Associate Degree Nursing program and become a registered nurse. She has a career goal to become a registered nurse, with a specific interest in geriatrics.
The scholarship was established in 2013 as memorial to Hough, who was a graduate of the Practical Nursing program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. Hough passed away unexpectedly in February 2012 from a sudden illness. Her instructors and class members described Sarah as a compassionate, kind and empathetic person who exemplified the attributes all Nursing students should possess.
The Sarah Hough Memorial Scholarship is awarded through a selection process based on criteria that includes professional promise, enrollment in the Nursing degree program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, and grade point average. The scholarship can be used toward tuition, books, and academic supplies.
