Author and retired educator Thomas D. Peacock will present a special reading and book signing event in the amphitheater and commons at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. The Duluth-based author will be reading from his recently published novel Beginnings: The Homeward Journey of Donovan Manypenny and talking about his writing career and experiences. The event is free and open to the public.
Thomas D. Peacock is a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior (Anishinaabe Ojibwe). Several of his books including Ojibwe Waasa Inaabida and The Good Path were Minnesota Book Award winners. Other books include The Tao of Nookomis and To Be Free.
Beginnings: The Homeward Journey of Donovan Manypenny is the story of Donovan Manypenny. Raised by his grandparents on a northern Wisconsin Ojibwe reservation until their passing when he is 10 years old, he becomes a ward of the state of Wisconsin and enters the child welfare system of foster care, children’s home, and adoption. The trauma he experiences as a result of losing his grandparents and way of life leads him to put his past behind him for over 43 years. Then at the age of 53, events in his life take him back to his childhood home, retracing the historical westward migration of his Ojibwe ancestors.
Heartfelt and bittersweet, and layered with meaning, Beginnings: The Homeward Journey of Donovan Manypenny will resonate with anyone who longs to make the journey home, wherever that may be, as well those who seek or have experienced cultural or spiritual awakening, and healing.
Peacock’s reading and book signing event is sponsored by the Anishinaabe and American Elementary Education teacher training program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. For more information, contact Tara Graves at 218-879-0701 or tgraves*AT*fdltcc.edu.

Testimonials

My favorite thing about FDLTCC is the people. I’ve met fantastic students, faculty and staff who go above and beyond what I expected.

I chose FDLTCC because of its size and the curriculum. When I first came here in 2019, I was just looking for what I needed to volunteer, perhaps in a crisis shelter. I met with Don Jarvinen, and the rest is history.

It is awesome here at the FDLTCC Education Program because it is like a family here, if you need help or are struggling with anything, you have quite a few people who will help you out.
