Hand games, sometimes called stick game, bones game, is an ancient team game utilized by the Plains and Southwest Indigenous Peoples of the North American continent.

Two teams play against each other. Each team has a captain and must have at least 3 players to fulfill the team requirements.

Teams compete in a guessing style game to find which hands the other team is hiding the bones (wooden usually) and guessing by using certain hand signals. The specific hand signals will be instructed each day we play hand games.

The game is very inclusive, fun to play, and has a lot of history and tradition associated to it.

Enjoying hand games? Register for the hand games class this spring and join the AIHEC student conference hand games team!

Testimonials

I chose FDLTCC because of its size and the curriculum. When I first came here in 2019, I was just looking for what I needed to volunteer, perhaps in a crisis shelter. I met with Don Jarvinen, and the rest is history.

My favorite thing about FDLTCC is the people. I’ve met fantastic students, faculty and staff who go above and beyond what I expected.

It is awesome here at the FDLTCC Education Program because it is like a family here, if you need help or are struggling with anything, you have quite a few people who will help you out.
